Beginning in Spring 2019, Illinois Youth Soccer Association will send one girls team and one boys team from the 2002 and 2003 players representing its state ODP program to Barcelona, Spain to experience a new worldview of soccer through a number of soccer activities, sightseeing tours, and cultural excursions in Spain. While on tour, the teams will have the opportunity to interact with their Spanish opponents, tour Camp Nou Stadium and visit well-known landmarks including Park Güell and La Sagrada Familia.
Illinois ODP provides children with the opportunity to reach their potential. Partnering with WorldStrides Excel gives Illinois ODP players an experience that will help them grow exponentially both on and off the pitch. The experience of playing against and interacting with Spanish opponents, training with highly respected coaches, and seeing the love of the game in Europe firsthand will accelerate the process of maximizing their potential in the sport.
This experience is certain to open the eyes of every participant to the game beyond our borders.
WHO WILL GO?
The teams will be made up from the 2018 State Teams in the 2002 and 2003 age groups. Other players who were not on the 2018 State Teams, but are in those age groups will have an opportunity to be invited via an early November special tryout date.
